Our History
The GFWC Gainesville Junior Woman's Club (GJWC) is a community-based service organi-
zation. We are not-for-profit organization celebrating over 50 years of helping our community. The GFWC GJWC was founded in
September 1954, by an eager group of thirty
charter members and in the following month
became the 73rd Junior Club to join the Florida
Federation of Women's Clubs (FFWC). In 1955,
the membership voted to become a part of the Alachua County Federation of Women's Clubs.
In the 1960's, the Gainesville Juniors became departmentalized, thus correlating more easily
with state and national federation programs and
projects.
A Collect for Clubwomen
Keep us, oh God, from pettiness; let
us be large in thought in word, in deed.
Let us be done with fault finding and
leave off self-seeking.
May we put away all pretense and
meet each other face to face without self-
pity and without prejudice.
May we never be hasty in judgment
and always be generous.
Let us take time for all things; make
us grow calm, serene, gentle.
Teach us to put into action our better
impulses, straight forward and unafraid.
Grant that we may realize it is the little
things that create differences, that in the
big things of life we are at one.
And may we strive to touch and to
know the great, common human heart of
us all, and oh, Lord God, let us forget not
to be kind.
